From My Heart
Jesus said to His disciples one day, “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another, as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this, shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one for another” (John 13:34-35). So, John tells us this message of love that we were given from the beginning by the Lord Jesus does not have an expiration date! People change, circumstances change, situations change - that is one of the certainties of life! Change is inevitable! But, the love of God never changes and the fact that the Lord expects us to love one another never changes. Selah
The Apostle John was so impressed with the love that just seemed to exude from the Lord Jesus. He referred to himself throughout his Gospel, as “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” It is not that the Lord Jesus did not love the others - of course He did - but John was moved by the fact that the Lord Jesus loved him! There is no doubt he understood the Lord Jesus loved the others, but John felt in his heart that the Lord Jesus loved him - and it seems he just could not get over that fact.
I was recently reading I John and noticed a verse in chapter 3 that jumped out to me and would like to share a few things. Chapter 3:11, says, “For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love another.” In other words, this message has been around a long time, and even through the centuries, it has not changed.
I wanted to take a moment and let our church family know that Don and Lynn Graf are now officially retired from their positions at our church. Don has served as our Facilities Manager for 17 years and has done an excellent job! Lynn has been my secretary and worked in the office for the last 9 years, and her sweet spirit and dedication has blessed all of us. Be sure to thank them today, or when you see them for their dedication to this ministry. The Lord has already sent us replacements for their positions! Andrew Mouring will take the Facilities Manager position and his wife Veronica will take the office position. The Mourings have been in our church for about 7 years and come on board excited to have the opportunity to work in a church ministry.
Thank the Lord for His wonderful blessing during the Spring Revival. It was a great four days, and we were certainly challenged and moved to greater heights of service for the Lord. Dr. Hamblin had a wonderful time as well, and his comment to me was, “If you cannot preach at the Church of the Open Door, God did not call you to preach.” He went on and on about how much freedom and liberty he had in the pulpit. I also want to thank Pastor Sterling Walsh for coming to sing for us! It was a great week.
