From My Heart

Memorial Day is one of our national holidays and is observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the United States military. This observance began in the years following the Civil War and grew naturally without any declarations or laws being passed to establish it as a national holiday.  Celebrations simply happened here and there and grew rapidly as the years passed.

It was originally known as Decoration Day but became an official federal holiday in 1971, and its name changed to Memorial Day. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or one of our nation’s many war memorials to have a time of remembrance for those who gave their lives to preserve our freedoms. Someone wisely said, “Freedom isn’t free!” And that is so true, and America has had to give the best she had in order to preserve the wonderful freedoms we enjoy in our country.

America’s National Cemetery in Arlington, VA held the first Decoration Day ceremony. On that day, General James Garfield, who would later serve nine terms in the House of Representatives and then be elected as our nation’s twentieth President, gave the address to 5000 people. This was the beginning of a broken-hearted nation honoring her fallen sons and daughters.

This last week, the Israeli Mossad sent a team to Teheran, Iran to once again show the Iranians that those who mess with Israel will have to pay a terrible cost. This Mossad team used motorcycles to surround one of Iran’s top generals, and after surrounding the vehicle at a red light, they used pistols with silencers, killing the general. Hassan Sayyad Khodaei was the senior officer of Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard.

Khodaei is connected in some way to Iran’s nuclear program, and it is believed he had something to do with enabling Iran’s rockets to hit a specific target. The Israeli government believes Iran has shared this technology with its proxy groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. Khodaei makes the 7th Iranian scientist, academic, or engineer who has been tied in some way with Iran’s nuclear program.

Have a wonderful day, and let’s enjoy this wonderful day the Lord has given. This could very well be the day our wonderful Savior comes in the clouds to call His Bride up to meet Him in the air! Wouldn’t that be great?

Pastor Norris
