From My Heart

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Karen and I want to wish everyone in our wonderful church family a healthy and happy New Year!  We also want to thank you for the generous Christmas gift you gave us two weeks ago.  I never cease to be amazed at the generosity of our church family!  So, thank you for all you have done for us this Christmas season.

In the first chapter of the Book of Joshua, the Lord told Joshua to take the children of Israel across the Jordan River and enter the land.  The Lord told him that every place the sole of their foot stepped - the Lord had already given that land to them!  That was an unbelievable promise!  As you continue reading the Book of Joshua, you see the Lord honoring this amazing promise.  They came to the swollen waters of the Jordan River, and the Lord had the Levites carry the Ark of the Covenant into the flooded waters. And when they obeyed the Word of the Lord, He parted the waters and allowed the children of Israel to cross over into the Land of Promise - on dry ground!  So, the Lord fulfilled His promise!

The rest of the Book continues to show how the Lord helped them conquer the land.  The Lord knocked down the walls of Jericho, He caused the sun to stand still at the Valley of Elah, and gave tremendous victories to Joshua as they conquered the Land which the Lord had promised.  The bottom line is this: when the Lord makes a promise, He keeps His promise!

Notice, the people had to actually march, they had to fight the Canaanites, and work hard for their victories - but God paves the way and gives them the victory.  And this is the application of this thought!  In the Christian life, we have many wonderful promises of victory and hope, but we have to fight the good fight, grow in the Lord, and trust and obey God’s Word.  We cannot simply sit back and do nothing and expect all of God’s wonderful promises to be ours for our enjoyment!  Just like Israel, we must put forth some effort to serve the Lord and stay in close fellowship!

Let’s do our part as we enter into 2025, and if we do our part, the Lord is going to fulfill His glorious promises to us!  Have a great day, and let’s draw near to the Lord today, and if we do - we will see the Lord draw near to us!
