From My Heart
Today we celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead! Jesus said over and over that He would die, would then be buried, and would then be resurrected from the grave on the third day! Can you imagine the thrill Peter and John experienced when they ran to the Garden Tomb and saw the stone rolled away, and then saw that He was not there? Oh, His swaddling clothes were there, but He was not there.
In Matthew 28:1-6, we read that the angel of the Lord came down out of Heaven on the third day and rolled away the stone that covered the entrance to the tomb. If you look at v. 5-6, you will see the stone was rolled away - not to let the Lord Jesus out - for He was already risen from the dead. The stone was rolled away to allow others to see that He had risen. The angel of the Lord said to the ladies who had come to the tomb, “…for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here, for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”
The resurrection was proof that God was satisfied with the sacrifice Jesus made for mankind on the cross. In the Old Testament, when the High Priest took the pure and spotless firstborn lamb into the Holy of Holies to make an offering for sin, the people waited outside to see if the sacrifice was accepted by God Almighty. The only way they knew that God had accepted the sacrifice was when they saw the High Priest come through the veil that separated the Holy of Holies from the Holy Place! The priest in the Holy Place would shout and give praise to the Lord! Then the High Priest would come through the veil that separated the people from the Holy Place and would raise his bloodied hands for all to see that the blood had successfully made atonement for the sins of the people!
Well, our Great High Priest, the Lord Jesus Christ, shed His precious blood on Calvary’s cross and paid our sin debt. Then, just as Jesus said it would happen, on the third day, Jesus came out of the tomb - showing the world that God had accepted His work on the cross for the atonement of sin, for the eternal redemption of our souls! So, we can see just how important the resurrection of Jesus from the grave truly is! If Jesus promised He would die, be buried, and then resurrect on the third day - but He did not - that would mean His body decayed in a grave over in Israel, just outside of the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem. And that would mean that we have all been deceived and lied to, and that none of us has any hope at all for eternal life!
But praise the Lord, He died, was buried, and then was resurrected from the grave! And today, He is alive! You say, “But Pastor, how do you know that?” Because I spoke with Him this morning, several times! “He is not here, for He is risen.” Have a wonderful day as we celebrate our Risen Savior.
