From My Heart
Happy Father’s Day! We have a candy bar for all our dads, so make sure you get yours before you leave today. My brother, sister, and I feel so blessed to still have our dad with us. My dad has always been my hero and will always be! If your dad is still living, I hope you will reach out to him today and show him the appreciation and love he deserves.
I want to thank the Auditorium Bible Class for the great job they did last Sunday evening with the ice cream fellowship. I had several folks tell me they think we should have ice cream after every Sunday evening service throughout the whole summer! I certainly like that idea, but I don’t think that is feasible or doable. But I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who set up, served, and then cleaned up afterwards. It was a great evening, and from my observation, everyone had a wonderful time.
I am sure that many of you saw the Thunderbirds flying over the church and doing laps around our city! As a matter of fact, several folks thanked me for lining them up to fly over the church! Well, let me assure you, I had nothing to do with that! I suppose you can thank President Trump for them being here, because they had a flyover for the MMA event at the White House last Sunday night. But it was fun to watch them make circles around our church. It rained and stormed just minutes after they flew off, but it was amazing watching them flying in a big circle.
Next Sunday is a special day, as Dr. Shelton Smith will be preaching in both the morning and evening services. While he and Betty are here, he and I are going to slip down to Camden Yards on Monday and Tuesday to go “bird watching.” Before I came to our church in November of 1995, Dr. Smith had been the pastor for 17 years. We were friends before the church called me to be the pastor, and we both determined we were going to stay friends. And we have done just that - our friendship has grown stronger and stronger. I ask him to come every year to preach for us, and he always loves to be back in Westminster! So, make sure you are here next week!
The Psalmist says, “This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.” We might have some aches and pains, or a broken heart, or have disappointments of some kind, but we certainly need to stop for a moment and realize that each day is a special gift from God. As we think of this great truth that the Lord gives us each day, we can rejoice and be glad in it. Each day is a gift from God, and you and I should be thankful for each day the Lord gives us!
So, today is a blessing from God, so let’s rejoice and be glad in it. Take a moment and ask the Lord to bless and speak to your heart. And Dads, don’t forget your candy bar! Again, Happy Father’s Day!
