From My Heart

The snowstorm last week has put us in a tight spot with the finances.  I want to ask you to give generously today, so we don’t find ourselves in a financial bind.  It has always amazed me how well our church family responds to situations like a snowstorm where we have to cancel church.  So let me encourage our church family to give, and let’s get caught up.  We have missionaries we have committed to support, salaries, snow removal bills, and utilities to pay for - so let’s stay caught up the best we can.

All throughout history, practically every culture has viewed weather extremes as a sign of judgment from whatever god they worshiped.  Famine, drought, floods, earthquakes were all viewed as their god judging them.  Even the Children of Israel recognized weather and the effects of weather as judgment from Jehovah God.

When Moses went before Pharaoh to tell him that God said, “Let my people go,” Pharaoh asked, “Who is Jehovah God that I should obey Him?” And it did not take long for Pharaoh to find out just who Jehovah God was!  Through weather and weather related events, Jehovah God completely decimated the false gods the Egyptian people worshiped.  Pharaoh quickly discovered that Jehovah God controlled everything and men should fear the Lord.

We have always had destructive storms, natural disasters, and plagues since the Flood of Noah’s day.  But, what I am saying is that in past cultures folks understood that disasters meant God was speaking.  But today, we live in a world that doesn’t believe in God!  They do not see God’s hand in anything!  Just think about the weather, and the weather related things that have happened in the last year in America.  The State of California was ablaze with wildfires, the terrible floods in Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama, the hurricanes that pounded the Gulf States, the severe storms with tornadoes that destroyed homes and businesses in the mid-west and yet, nobody seems to stop and wonder if maybe God may be speaking!

Another thing to consider is how the Lord is going to use weather and weather related events to judge the world during the Tribulation Period. Much of the wrath that God will pour out upon the earth and upon men will be connected to weather issues.  We are seeing a seeming increase in weather related events and in the intensity of these events - but our atheistic world never sees God’s hand in it! However, in the Tribulation Period, John saw folks hiding themselves from the wrath of God.  It seems they will know what is happening to them is from God’s hand!

Oh that our world would wake up to see the hand of God moving and working in this country!  Have a great day and “keep looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”

     Pastor Norris
